Tooth Extractions

Our dental team will work with you to help ensure your natural teeth last for as long as possible, and we hope for life. We always explore all possible treatment options before recommending a tooth is removed. However, sometimes a tooth that is severely damaged or infected cannot be restored will need to be removed.

Wisdom teeth can often require removal because the jaw is too crowded to accommodate them properly, leading to the tooth becoming ‘impacted’, where it will try to emerge underneath the adjacent tooth or sideways through the gums. An impacted wisdom tooth can damage the adjacent teeth, potentially causing serious complications including infection and decay. We keep a close eye on the development and position of wisdom teeth using digital dental x-rays. If we can clearly see there is no hope of the tooth erupting correctly, we will suggest it is removed.

If you do require a tooth removal, we will ensure the entire process is as painless and as comfortable as possible. Usually, healing afterwards is relatively quick with few side-effects. We can complete straightforward tooth removals in our dental practice, but we may choose to refer you to an oral surgeon for more complex extractions.
